The Wood Brothers (#21 Ford) went searching for a driver for 2015 and found Ryan Blaney and are expanding their schedule with the 21-year-old winner in Xfinity and Camping World Truck Series. Wood Brothers say their goal has been last five years to develop young drivers and Ryan Blaney was obvious choice to replace Trevor Bayne after he moved to a full-time Cup ride. They really want to get to 100 wins in their 65th anniversary season. Team co-owner Eddie Wood says they will run 12 races with Motorcraft on board and have tentatively added six races to the schedule, as part of working with Team Penske. Those six races will be Darlington, Bristol, Chicagoland, the fall Charlotte race, Kentucky and New Hampshire. Penske sponsors PPG, Snap-On, and SKF will sponsor the car in those races. Wood says that the team’s partnership with Team Penske is similar to what it was with Roush Fenway Racing – Penske does the body and chassis work and shares engineering data. Wood says that the #22 NXS pit crew will pit the #21 on race days.(WSB Radio Race Blog)
AND EDDIE WOOD: WE UNDERSTAND YOU HAVE AN EXPANDED SEASON TO ANNOUNCE? “Yeah, our normal commitment is with Ford Motor Company and with Motorcraft Quick Lane brands and we are going to run our 12 races like we have been doing for the last few years. We will run the speedways and the fast 1.5 mile tracks but we are excited to say that we have been working really hard with our new alliance with Team Penske and we have tentatively added six races to our schedule. We can talk about those in more depth later but we are really excited about that. We have been working really hard to expand our schedule because you just want to race every week. It kills you when you are not there but we are really thankful we have been able to do that.”(Ford Racing)(1-28-2015)
