2017 Charter Information
Rick Ware Racing acquires Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series charter for 2018: Officials from Rick Ware Racing (RWR) announced today that they have acquired a charter from a current Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) team to utilize during the 2018 season. The acquisition of the charter signifies that RWR will compete full-time in the Cup Series next season with the No. 51 entry beginning with the 60th annual Daytona 500 on Sun, Feb. 18, 2018. The Thomasville, N.C.-based team also plans to field an “open” car throughout the season with the No. 52 entry.[More](12-15-2017)
JTG Daugherty buys charter from Furniture Row #77 team: Another key piece to 2018 that still needs to be announced is which teams will have the 36 guaranteed positions for each race. Those go to teams with NASCAR-issued charters. The Furniture Row #77 team charter has been sold to JTG Daugherty Racing for its #37 car.[More](11-25-2017)
Team charters currently selling for millions: Charters belonging to smaller NASCAR Cup teams have, on average, been sold or leased for between $2-3 million, according to a report by the Sports Business Journal. Eight charters were sold or leased during the last offseason.[More](4-4-2017)
NASCAR Announces 2017 Charter teams UPDATED: NASCAR revealed in February 2016 a landmark new ownership structure, awarding 36 Charters that guarantee entry into every points event in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Since then, some leasing and buying of Charters has occurred. The table below shows the Charters (which were awarded following the 2015 season) for 2017. Teams listed alphabetically.

(E) HScott Motorsports’ #15 Charter was sold to Premium Motorsports.
(F) Go Fas Racing is leasing the #32 Charter to the #21 team of Wood Brothers Racing.
(G) Circle Sport and The Motorsports Group merged operations to field the #33 team with the Charter Circle Sport had.
(H) BK Racing’s #83 charter was sold to Front Row, who leased it to TriStar.
