MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 22, 2018) – JR Motorsports has named veteran car chief Billy Wilburn as crew chief of Justin Allgaier and the No. 7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture team for this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway and next week at Pocono Raceway.
Wilburn, who is currently in his fifth season as car chief of the No. 7 team, will step into the role normally occupied by Jason Burdett. Burdett is serving a two-race suspension after an infraction was found following the team’s NASCAR Xfinity Series victory at Dover International Speedway. NASCAR announced the penalty on May 9.
Allgaier and the No. 7 team have had a successful season thus far, with one win, six top fives, seven top 10s, and a pole award at ISM Raceway. The 31-year-old driver currently sits fourth in the NXS point standings, 58 markers behind the leader, teammate Elliott Sadler.
Wilburn is a native of Tempe, Ariz., and is a 34-year motorsports veteran. He previously held crew chief roles at Penske Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports and Robert Yates Racing, and has also served in various positions with Hendrick Motorsports. Additionally, Wilburn was interim crew chief for Allgaier and the No. 7 team in last year’s championship finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Kenny Francis, vehicle technical director for Hendrick Motorsports, will assist in calling the race this Saturday at CMS.
