Kevin Duane Caldwell, 55, of Altus, Oklahoma, was welcomed into heaven on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018. He was born May 20, 1963, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Thomas R. Caldwell, Sr. And Barbara J. (Stanley) Caldwell.
In 1973, Tom’s career with the Air Force brought the Caldwell family to Altus, where he and Barbara raised Tom, Jr., Kevin, Carol, and Kathy. The fact that Altus had a dirt track and an asphalt racetrack was a major bonus for Tom, Tom, Jr. and Kevin, since racing was their passion. Kevin began racing as a young teen. During his racing career, he was track champion at Altus Speedway, Sooner International Raceway and Quartz Mountain Speedway. He attended Altus Public Schools and graduated from high school in May, 1981. Upon graduation, Kevin was in the Air Force Reserves for a short time. He later owned and operated Caldwell’s 66 and Uhaul on Main Street in Altus, along with his father.
In 1994, Kevin moved to Mooresville, North Carolina, to pursue his passion for racing. It was this dedication and talent that led him to work for many different racing teams, which included USAir and Smokin’ Joe’s NASCAR Winston Cup Teams. He was Crew Chief for Dupont Chevy Monte Carlo NASCAR Busch Grand National Team, with driver Ricky Craven; Stanley Pontiac NASCAR Busch Grand National Team, with drivers Matt Hutter and David Green; Monro Muffler and Brake Chevy Monte Carlo NASCAR Busch Grand National Team, with driver Andy Santerre; Icehouse Ford NASCAR Craftsman Truck Team, with driver Ron Barfield; Slim Jim Monte Carlo NASCAR Busch Grand National Team, with driver Terry Labonte. Other teams include, Geico Direct Chevy Monte Carlo, with driver Mike Wallace; Keystone Light Dodge Intrepid, with driver Steadman Marlin; MBA Motorsports, with driver Hermie Sadler and Venterini Motorsports. He returned to Altus in 2015 and was a sales associate for Wilmes Ford.
A service celebrating Kevin’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday August 7, 2018 at Martha Road Baptist Church.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home and Crematory, Altus, Oklahoma.
