UPDATE: Chevrolet will campaign an updated Camaro SS coupe in the NASCAR Xfinity Series? and the new Silverado in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Series? in 2019, the brand announced today.
This marks the third time the Xfinity Series Camaro SS has received an update since its competition debut in 2013. This is the first time since 2014 the Gander Outdoors Truck Series Silverado has been redesigned.
“We always want to align our racing vehicles with what is available in the showroom,” said Jim Campbell, vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “The Camaro SS was updated for the 2019 model year, and Silverado RST is all new. We can’t wait to see the Camaro SS and the Silverado RST on the track next February at Daytona.”
The most notable changes to both the Xfinity Series 2019 Chevrolet Camaro SS and Gander Outdoors Series Chevrolet Silverado are the upper front fascia, fenders, hood and tail regions which reflect the look of the all-new production models.
When the Xfinity Series Camaro SS was introduced in 2012, it was modeled after the fifth generation Camaro SS. This most recent update will reflect the most recent changes to the sixth-generation Camaro SS. While the Silverado is modeled after the strongest, most advanced Silverado ever, building on the legacy of the most dependable, longest-lasting full-sized pickup on the road*.
Camaro SS, which made its on-track debut with a win at Daytona International Speedway in February 2013, has visited Victory Lane 67 times, ranking it third among Chevy nameplates that have competed in the Xfinity Series.
Additionally, Camaro SS has earned three Bill France Performance Cup manufacturer championships and three drivers’ championships (Austin Dillon, Chase Elliott and William Byron). With three races remaining in the 2019 season, Chevrolet leads the manufacturer points and has the top three drivers in the standings.
Silverado is the only nameplate Chevrolet has campaigned in the Truck series since the inaugural race 23 years ago. Since then, Silverado has delivered 231 race wins, eight Manufacturers’ Championships and 12 Drivers’ Championships, making it the most successful truck to compete in the series.
With three races remaining in the 2018 season, Silverado drivers have collected 10 wins and Chevrolet leads both the Manufacturer Standings and Johnny Sauter leads the Driver Standings.
In addition to the competition updates announced today, Chevrolet extended its partnership as the official vehicle of Texas Motor Speedway. Chevrolet has had a long-standing relationship with Texas Motor Speedway that dates back to the inaugural race in 1997. In addition to racing, Chevrolet utilizes the speedway to engage with race fans, display its latest trucks, crossovers and cars in the midway, and regularly uses the venue for training and new-vehicle launch events.

Original post 10-31-2018: Sources have confirmed that Chevrolet will be hosting a press conference at Texas Motor Speedway Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the media center to announce new Camaro and Silverado body designs for the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series and the 2019 Gander Outdoors Trucks Series entries.
A press release regarding the weekend schedule from the track may have spilled the beans on the event, as well, but news that Chevrolet had been working to redesign the Camaro was first reported by Kickin’ the Tires in April. At the time, representatives from Chevrolet were mum on the report, as they have been with Friday’s forthcoming press event. A spokesperson would only confirm the press conference was happening.
Chevrolet first introduced the Camaro to the Xfinity Series in 2013.
“We saw photos of it last week and should get more information soon,” said a source, in April. “They had one at the R&D Center last week, so we know it is happening but we haven’t been told when. It is probably early because what they had at R&D was a production car, so however long that process takes.”
The source did not know the design changes for the Silverado pick-up but changes to the nose of the Camaro are expected.
