William Thomas “Tommy” Mullis Jr., 62, of China Grove, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at home. He was born in Mecklenburg County, son of Jane Crane Mullis and the late William Thomas Mullis, Sr. Those left to cherish his memory include his children Brandon Thomas Mullis (Meredith), Stephanie Paige Mullis, Jessica Leigh Mullis (Kevin), and Gabriella Marina Lopez Mullis; grandchildren Harper Johnson and Ava Mullis; sister Linda Wingate (Darryl); brother David Mullis (Susan); as well as a nephew and numerous nieces. Tommy had a lengthy career in NASCAR working with many well known race teams. A celebration of Tommy’s life will be held at a later date. Tommy Mullis, who worked as the transport driver for the Robert Yates Racing Team and, specifically, for Dale Jarrett’s #88 Ford, passed away on Thursday, April 23rd, 2020 from what one close friend has said are natural causes.
I am sad to hear Tommy Mullis has passed away. Tommy was a great teammate, one hell of a hauler driver, and a great friend! My thoughts are with Tommy's family and friends during this difficult time.
