Bobby Allison managed to finish well enough in the 1983 season finale at Riverside to capture the first Winston Cup championship of his career.
Later, however, sugar residue was discovered in the fuel cell of his DiGard Racing Buick. Someone, for some reason, had attempted to sabotage the team’s march to the title. But who? And why? Maybe most importantly, how?
Allison finished ninth at Riverside, giving him a 47-point margin of victory in the battle for the 1983 title. Imagine what might have happened had the attempted sabotage actually worked? What then? What recourse would DiGard Racing have had?
