Mike Helton had dealt with the media while working at various race tracks, and he’d even been a member of the media himself during his stint at an AM radio station in Bristol, Virginia early in his career.
After moving to NASCAR, first as vice president of competition and then as president, he found himself in front of cameras on a regular basis. It was a position in which he felt comfortable enough, but he soon learned to be wary.
