There ARE a handful of decisions that he’s helped make over the years that Mike Helton would go back and change, but he’s keeping them to himself. Remember? He’s wary with the media, and, probably, for good reason. As for his legacy, Helton broke into the sport from humble beginnings and rose to the very top. He can look back on a sport that is demonstrably safer. That, and he helped set a course for a sport that will continue on someday without him.
For more than 32 years, Grand National/Winston Cup/NASCAR Scene writers and photographers were there to record NASCAR history as it was being made. Join hosts Rick Houston and Steve Waid each week on The Scene Vault Podcast Presented by Q Ware as they take a look back at the extraordinary people, places and events woven into the rich tapestry that is our sport.
