When Davey Allison lost his life in a July 1993 helicopter crash, Larry McReynolds hadn’t just lost the driver for his race team.
He hadn’t lost just another person he knew from the NASCAR garage.
He lost his best friend.
Just months after Alan Kulwicki died in an airplane crash, Allison’s accident left a similar emotional void in the sport. All McReynolds and the rest of the Robert Yates Racing team could do was attempt to pick up the pieces and move on.
