Al Michaels set the bar high with his iconic “Do you believe in miracles?” call at the end of the 1980 Winter Olympics hockey game between the United States and Soviet Union.
Ned Jarrett matched it at the end of the 1993 Daytona 500.
Below the CBS broadcast booth, the scene unfolded between Jarrett’s own son, Dale, and another Dale, this one with the last name of Earnhardt. A five-time Winston Cup champion at the time, Earnhardt had lost the Daytona 500 in virtually every way conceivable. Dale Jarrett was determined to extend Earnhardt’s losing streak in the sport’s biggest event.
And on the last lap, the elder Jarrett had the call all to himself as his son rode to victory.
