The Scene Vault: David Pearson, The Greatest Of All Time?

By Rick Houston

The argument has been around since the first automobiles took to a race track.

Who is the greatest driver of all time?

The answer was simple enough for David Pearson. According to Pearson, the greatest NASCAR driver ever was … David Pearson. To him, it just didn’t make sense to race if you DIDN’T think you were the best thing going.

It was that kind of self-confidence that drove Pearson to victory lane 105 times in NASCAR competition, second only to his friendly rival, Richard Petty.

This is his story.
