Daytona post-race penalties announced

NASCAR has released the post-race penalty report following the season opening race weekend at Daytona International Speedway.

In the Cup Series, the teams of #2-Brad Keselowski and #23-Bubba Wallace were issue penalties for loose lug nuts. Crew chiefs Jeremy Bullins and Mike Wheeler were each fined $10,000. Keselowski’s violation occurred in the Busch Clash, Wallace’s following the Bluegreen Vacation Duels on Thursday.

In addition, NASCAR issued an indefinite suspension to Michael Leoncini.  He had been listed as a hauler driver on the #26 team of GMS Racing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

The behavioral penalty was a violation of section 12.8.1.e (Member Conduct).

 

NASCAR Rule Book Section 12.8.1.e:

Member actions that could result in a fine and/or indefinite suspension, or termination:

  • PublicStatement and/or communication made public (including social media platforms) that demeans, criticizes, ridicules, or otherwise disparages another person based upon that person’s race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age, or handicapping condition.
  • Being charged with or convicted of significant criminal violations (e.g. Domestic Violence, Trafficking, Assault), or having had determinations rendered by criminal or civil authorities that in NASCAR’s judgement necessitate action. NASCAR will not pre-judge guilt or innocence in the criminal or civil legal system, or the guilt or innocence of the Member, but rather review each matter in its own context and circumstances and with regards to its potential effects upon the sport.
