StarCom Racing sells NASCAR Charter: UPDATES: to 23XI Racing

UPDATE 3: 23XI Racing president Steve Lauletta confirmed Tuesday evening that 23XI Racing has secured the StarCom Racing charter for 2022.

The charter will be used by the #45 team of Kurt Busch.

UPDATE 2: 11-15-202: 23XI Racing is expected to purchase a charter from outgoing NASCAR team StarCom Racing, sources say, securing a second one for the team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin. StarCom was previously in advanced talks to sell the charter to Spire Motorsports, but that deal ultimately did not get finalized.

The exact reasoning for the change was unclear, as was the purchase price by 23XI. However, SBJ reported earlier this month that the next charters that sell in the sport are expected to go for at least $12M, which is roughly double the going price from a year ago. 23XI has yet to announce the charter purchase, and it declined to comment.

UPDATE 11-5-2021: After numerous reports and a crew member confirmation over the last few months, StarCom Racing confirmed on Friday that the team has sold its charter for 2022 and will cease operation following the race at Phoenix Raceway on Sunday. “It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our StarCom Racing fans. After the championship this weekend, our #00 charter will take new ownership. Thank you so much to all our fans for the fun memories and loyal support over the years,” the team posted on social media.

The post did not mention/confirm which team had purchased the charter.

Original post: StarCom Racing which fields the No. 00 Chevrolet in the NASCAR Cup Series has sold its charter, sources have told CATCHFENCE.com.

StarCom Racing is comprised of several owners, including William Woehlemann, Michael Kohler and Matthew Kohler.

When asked to confirm the purchase of their charter, a spokesperson for StarCom Racing responded, “There is nothing confirmed to report at this time.”

Spire Motorsports has been rumored to be interested in the StarCom Racing charter. However, a Spire team spokesperson said the organization has “no news to announce at this time.”

Spire currently owns three Cup charters but sold two to Kaulig Racing for the 2022 Cup season in June.
