John Youk, known as Big John throughout the garage area, has passed away. Youk was a staple in the garage area for 30 years, most recently as the team cook for Stewart Haas Racing. More information regarding Youk’s memorial or service will be updated as it becomes available.
Youk was also an author of a cookbook, Big John’s Speedway Grill, published in 2006.
A Go Fund Me has been set up for Big John’s loved ones. It explains:
Big John has been an Icon in the NASCAR racing garage for over 30 years as a pit crew jack man and whatever other position needed until he one day he decided to begin feeding his team drivers and team mates. Big John changed the way many ate in the NASCAR garage. He decided to cook on the grill and feed them better meals instead of a sandwich or whatever the teams could get. He cooked for many drivers and teams, but ended his career cooking for Stewart Haas Racing. He was a racer, a NASCAR garage Icon, a team player, great cook, and loved people. If you have been in the garage there is a good chance you met Big John. He was an all around great man.
So sad to hear the news of the passing of Big John today..
Big John was our team cook for @StewartHaasRcng at the race tracks for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.. 🙏🏼 https://t.co/T0nlj1anID
