For the first time this season there isn’t a clear favorite to win a race. Heading into the Toyota Owners 400 this weekend, oddsmakers can’t differentiate between Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott at the top of the market.
Larson and Elliot are both given +900 odds, or an implied 10% chance to win the race. That puts them just ahead of Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, and Martin Truex Jr., all of whom have +1000 odds or an implied 9.1% chance to win the race.
In fact, there are 11 drivers given at least +1400 odds to win this race. Making it by far the tightest the odds have been this year. One to keep an eye on is Ross Chastain, given +1200 odds after winning the EchoPark Grand Prix.
Quote from OddsChecker spokesman Kyle Newman, “Kyle Larson has been letting oddsmakers down in a major way this season. He’s finished 29th or worse in 4 of the 6 races, but he’s been the favorite to win 3 races already. This will be his fourth time as the favorite despite his early season struggles. That said, oddsmakers aren’t ignoring all results. Ross Chastain has finished top-3 in his last 4 races, and top-2 in his last 3. After his win, oddsmakers are ready to acknowledge him and have moved him into the top-10 on the odds market for the first time this season.”
