The Associated Press‘ Jenna Fryer talked to Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Gene Haas prior to the Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday.
He indicated that a final decision has not been made on the driver of the No. 41 next season, with Haas preferring to give Cole Custer another year while co-owner Tony Stewart would opt to give Ryan Preece a shot in the car.
Preece is running a limited schedule across all three national series this year and serves as the reserve driver for Stewart-Haas.
#NASCAR: Gene Haas on pre-race grid says he’d like to give Cole Custer another year to prove himself but Tony Stewart prefers Ryan Preece and they’ve got to carefully consider who they put in car because he anticipates losing Harvick and Almirola at end of 2023.
