Brandon Jones, Sammy Smith swap crew chiefs beginning at Atlanta

JR Motorsports has swapped crew chiefs for Brandon Jones and Sammy Smith, beginning this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Adam Wall, who was a former engineer at Hendrick Motorsports, has moved over to Jones’ No. 9 team after spending the opening 23 races of the Xfinity Series season calling the shots for Smith. Phillip Bell, who was previously an engineer for seven years at JRM, including the No. 9 Chevrolet during a record-breaking 2022 season, will slide over to the No. 8 team with Smith.

Both Wall and Bell are first-year crew chiefs. Smith is currently on the playoff elimination line, 10 points above Ryan Sieg with three races remaining in the regular season. Meanwhile, Jones has DNF’d in seven races and is in a must-win situation, ranking 14th on the playoff grid, 132 points below the elimination line.
