NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Joey Gase (right) will showcase his racecar featuring organ and tissue donor, Mario Abrahram Torres Jr., simply known as Abraham (middle). The grand reveal of the car will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025, at the main entrance of Donor Network of Arizona’s office at 2010 W. Rio Salado Pkwy, Tempe, AZ 85281 ahead of a Nov. 1 race.
Love at First Fight: Brooke Ballesteros’ (left) son fell in love with boxing in middle school. Abraham went into boxing originally to lose some weight and get healthy, but it quickly turned into much more. It taught him discipline, offered a sense of community, and gave him hope for a professional career.
An accident while training at a boxing gym sent him to the hospital and ended with doctors declaring him brain dead at only 16 years old in October 2023.
“I looked at the nurse, and I was like, ‘You need to get the organ donation people. I need them to come see me now,’” Brooke says, recalling her eventual acceptance of her son’s brain death declaration. “His death was not in vain. He still got to be the hero in his story.”
Please remind your audiences: Arizonans can join the DonateLifeAZ Registry as organ and tissue donors when they apply for or renew a driver’s license or state ID at an ADOT MVD or select authorized third-party office. They can also register online anytime at DonateLifeAZ.org.
