RFK Racing committed to running three teams in 2027

RFK Racing plans to continue fielding three full-time NASCAR Cup Series entries in 2027 regardless of whether the organization is able to secure a third charter before next season.

RFK Racing president Chip Bowers discussed the team’s charter situation during an appearance on Jeff Gluck’s “Gluckcast” Thursday making it clear the organization intends to keep the No. 60 team on track with or without a charter.

“We will run three cars,” Bowers said. “That’s unequivocally our focus moving forward.”

RFK Racing expanded to a third full-time entry in 2025 with Ryan Preece driving the No. 60 Ford. However, the team currently operates with only two charters and would need to either purchase another charter or compete as an open team in 2027.

Bowers said acquiring a charter remains the organization’s top priority because RFK sees “great value” in the charter system both short-term and long-term. But he also indicated the team has already prepared internally for the possibility that a third charter may not become available.

“Short of being able to access one or acquire one, we’ll run open,” Bowers said. “That’s a decision we’ve already made as an organization.”
