Among the excitement for NASCAR’s return to Chicagoland Speedway, there is one constant for teams in both the NASCAR Cup Series and the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series – familiar Goodyear Racing Eagle tires.
The 1.5-mile Joliet, Illinois, track puts similar demands on tires to other intermediate ovals, so Goodyear has selected tire setups that have already run several times at similar tracks this year.
This tire setup was chosen for Chicagoland after an April test that featured drivers from all three Cup Series manufacturers – Kyle Larson (Chevrolet), Ryan Blaney (Ford) and Denny Hamlin (Toyota) – plus O’Reilly Auto Parts Series drivers Justin Allgaier (Chevrolet) and Brandon Jones (Toyota).
The Cup Series tire setup for this weekend was most recently used at Nashville Superspeedway. The left-side tire has since also raced at Michigan International Speedway and Pocono Raceway.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will run a right-side tire that debuted at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May along with a left-side tire raced several times this year, most recently at Nashville. As is customary on tracks one-mile and longer, teams will run inner liners inside their tires.
“Although teams have not raced at Chicagoland Speedway since 2019, they have lots of data on their Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setups for this weekend,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “The April test gave us valuable information and confirmed that our proven intermediate package is the right choice for this event. With the race falling on the Fourth of July weekend and plenty of excitement around NASCAR’s return to Chicagoland, our focus remains on providing teams with proven performance.”
Goodyear Racing Eagles are also in action this weekend in Italy with the European Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Imola. In France, Goodyear Eagles will grip the Historic Sportscar Racing NASCAR Classic presented by Goodyear on the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, where 36 historic stock cars will celebrate 50 years since NASCAR’s first attempt at the 24-hour race.
