The National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA®) is heading back to Daytona International Speedway this week alongside NASCAR driver Joey Gase to spotlight Safety Doesn’t Happen By Chance™, NFPA’s groundbreaking public awareness campaign about the vital role that safety codes and standards play in keeping people safe.
Gase will be behind the wheel during the Coke Zero Sugar 400 on August 29, 2026, in Daytona, racing the No. 44 car. The race begins at 7:30 p.m. ET.
“This race gives us an incredible opportunity to reach fans with a message that extends far beyond the track,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “From the wiring in your home to the exits in your office, safety codes and standards work around the clock to protect you. Through our ongoing sponsorship of Joey Gase, we’re bringing these invisible protections to light and reminding racing fans why they matter.”
The race continues NFPA’s collaboration with Joey Gase which began in 2023, bringing important fire safety messages directly to viewers across the country. Their work together comes at a time when established code development processes face increasing pressure from special interest groups seeking to bypass the rigorous, consensus-based approach that has helped advance safety for decades.
By raising awareness of how safety codes and standards work and why they matter, NFPA aims to encourage greater public understanding and support for the systems behind the safety precautions people rely on every day.
