NASCAR Cup Series teams will run the same Goodyear Racing Eagle setup at Darlington Raceway this weekend as at the Goodyear 400 in March.
This tire setup has been used multiple times since NASCAR’s spring visit to Darlington, most recently at Chicagoland Speedway in July. The left-side Goodyear Racing Eagle was also used at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“Darlington’s rough surface and egg-shaped layout make it a demanding track on tires,” said Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear’s Director of Racing for the Americas. “To account for the longer race distance, teams will have two additional sets of tires compared to the spring race, as well as the extra set for the new practice format. As we enter The Chase, giving teams a trusted tire package is even more important as they put everything on the line.”
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series will run a right-side tire that is new to Darlington but was introduced at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The left-side tire has run several times since Darlington in March, most recently at Iowa Speedway. Teams in this series will run inner liners, as is customary on tracks one mile and longer.
Darlington is part of a big weekend for Goodyear Racing, with major races happening around the country and overseas. Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park hosts the U.S. Nationals, the most prestigious event on the NHRA schedule, while Circuit of The Americas is home to a six-hour FIA World Endurance Championship race. The British Touring Car Championship is also in action at Croft Circuit, close to the English town of Darlington.
