NASCAR makes rules package changes for Talladega race

NASCAR distributed a rules update to Cup Series teams Wednesday for the October 25 race at Talladega Superspeedway.

The package for Talladega will be the same as the package used for the August race at Daytona International Speedway, with one exception – the spoiler blade will be shortened to 3.5 inches from the four-inch spoiler used at Daytona.

For the August Daytona race, NASCAR shortened the rear spoiler from seven inches to four inches and reduced horsepower from 510 to 465. The changes were made in an effort to reduce drag and provide drivers with more opportunities to move through the field rather than relying as heavily on track position and fuel-saving strategies.

The Talladega package will retain the 465-horsepower configuration while taking another half-inch off the spoiler.

In addition, the stage lengths will match the first Talladega race of the season. The stages will end on laps 98, 143 and 188.
