Jim Long named full-time crew chief just before Texas after working the Bristol race. Paychex just re-upped with Bodine for 1999. Ran a Gold paint scheme at The Winston Open. Gere Kennon named crew chief on 3/24. Donnie Richeson has been let go as crew chief before the spring Atlanta race. Paychex signed on the primary sponsor. Andy Evan’s became a part owner late in 1997 with Team Scandia.

Tom Hubert raced at Watkins Glen, one race deal. Dallenbach to run a few races, then the team and Dallenbach will evaluate how it is going. Jerry Nadeau was released 7-14-98. Announced in Atlanta, Miami Dolphins QB, Dan Marino part owner hence the #13, Jerry Pitts is the rumored cc. Teammate with Bill Elliott and the #94, will also share information with the #81 team

Attempted Indy with Lance Hooper(their BGN driver) and WCW as the sponsor but failed. Hear this team has shut down to concentrate on their BGN team with Lance Hooper. Loy Allen attempted Daytona with Delco-Remy America as a one race deal but missed. Switched numbers with Dale Earnhardt Inc Chevy which was the #14 and will run Jackson’s old #1. I hear Jackson got $200.000 to switch numbers. R&L Carriers will not return as sponsor.

David Robinson and Rescue left just before Darlington, not sure what the plans are. May race in Rockingham if sponsorship can be found. Ted Musgrave ran at Michigan and will again at Darlington. Tim Steele is gone from this deal. Loy Allen attempted to run at Indy for a one-race deal but missed. Hear Steele may be out of this ride now. Blaise Alexander may run 3 races. Joey Knucles named crew chief on July 10th. Morgan Shepherd was to run 8-10 races in the car, things changed as Steele proved he is ready to go. Tim Steele may run this car later in the season and will run it full time in 1999. The team is now know as Moore-Robinson Motorsports. The partnership between Moore and Steele did not happen. The team is looking to run a few races before Steele recovers, but still hopes to get him in the car mid season. I hear Harold Steele, Tim’s father has sold his interest in the team back to Moore.

Forced to go to a Pontiac, Tabasco suing former owner ISM and Bob Hancher. Beverly trying to smooth things over. Team merges with the #35 Tabasco team, starts at Indy, will be in a chevy and be #35. DW will be back in the car at the Brickyard 400. Ron Hornaday ran a one race deal in the car at Sears Point with NAPA as the sponsor. Phil Hammer named crew chief on 6-5-98. No idea what happens to Dave McCarty who was the crew chief(and the former crew chief of the truck team). DW returned to the car at the Brickyard 400. Will be called Tyler Jet Motorsports. Texas businessman Tim Beverley bought the team from DW on 3-25 and will put the team on the sidelines while he reorganizes the team and gains sponsorship. Waltrip will drive the #1 Pennzoil Chevy in place of Steve Park until he returns from his injuries at Indy. Builder’s Square/ Speedblock contract terminated as they did not pay the bills. Jeff Hammond released as crew chief.

Did not run at Charlotte, no idea if Daytona will be attempted. Officially announced on 9-3. Plans to run five Winston Cup races this fall, probably the events at Charlotte, Daytona, Phoenix, Rockingham and Atlanta. Will move up full time to Cup in 1999.

Elliott Sadler in this ride for 1999. Waltrip will be out at the end of the year, no word on a replacement yet. Ran a Woody-Woodpecker paint scheme at Indy and Michigan. The Wood Bros have formed an alliance with Roush Racing to field a 2nd team in 1999. Rumors have Matt Kenseth in the new car/team. Using Roush Engines in 1998, Waltrip signed for 1998. Sharing info with the #23 team.

Chris Hussey released, Baldwin came aboard at Dover(fall). Caterpillar is rumored as the new sponsor for 1999. Burton is signed thru 1999 and is expected to stay. MBNA will leave as primary sponsor after the 1998 season. No rumors on a replacement yet. Rumors have MBNA considering going elsewhere in 1999 and Hussey leaving the team if Burton stays. Terry Elledge joins Davis’ team as director of engine development

Musgrave drove at Bristol. Carter has decided not to start a 2nd team in 1999. Spencer hurt and missed Michigan and Bristol. Sharing info with the #21 team.

Lost Cartoon Network, have heard no rumors about this team, Green took over for Pressley midseason in 1997, Bill Ingle let go mid-season also

Phil Hammer left to take the crew chief job with Tyler Jet Motorsports(#17) on 6-6-98. I hear the team may wait until 1999 to run in Cup. Bickle is no longer with the team, hard to say what they may do. The team has decided to back off ot a full 1998 run and will take some time to get sponsorshp and build up the team. Plans to run around 10 races later in the year. Rich Bickle still plans to drive the car and has signed a letter of intent to do so, but no contract. The rumor was 7up as a sponsor but that seems to have died down.

Dallenbach is the hottest rumor right now in a limited role. Todd Bodine released, Gary Bradberry runs a one race deal at Loudon. Loy Allen was to drive at Daytona in the Pepsi 400 until it was postponed, no idea what is going on with this team. Bodine rumored to be out soon. This team may get some shakeup’s now that they have missed nine races. New team and sponsor for WC in 1998, Bodine returns to WC full-time in 1998, will run special paint schemes at the Bud Shootout and at Atlanta and Vegas

Craven was out at 3 months with post-concussion syndrome. Did not run a Pontiac at Atlanta, no idea if the team will try elsewhere. May run a Pontiac in the Atlanta spring race. Was #25, changed for NASCAR’s 50th year anniversary, Graves moves to the #5 as cc, Tony Furr comes over from the #98 to be the new crew chief, I hear Graves let many of the #5 crew go. SDRC is a new assoc. Will go back to #25 in 1999.

Hanes will not return as the sponsor.
