  • Hamlin wins at Chicago: #11-Denny Hamlin won the myAFibRisk.com 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Chicagoland Speedway for his 2nd win of the season, 1st win at Chicago and 26th career win. After starting 29th, the lowest of any Chase competitor, Hamlin spun on lap 2, and lost a lap, and restarted the race in 43rd. He eventually got his lap back and worked his way through the field. The team stayed on track during the final caution and he took the lead with 4 laps to go. He led just 9 of the 267 laps.
    With the win, Hamlin automatically advances to the next round of the Chase.
    #19-Edwards finished 2nd followed by #41-Busch, #31-Newman, #20-Kenseth, #22-Logano, #42-Larson, #2-Keselowski, #18-Busch, and #43-Almirola.
    Polesitter #4-Harvick finished 42nd. He cut a tire down and spun into the wall after contact with #48 Johnson on a restart midway though the race. He had to go to the garage for repairs for more than 50 laps.
    #20-Kenseth now leads the Chase points standings, 2 points over Hamlin.
    There were 17 lead changes among 10 drivers. There were 6 cautions for 28 yellow flag laps.

    ” Number of officials on pit road during race reduced from 43 to 10.
    ” 45 HD cameras will be mounted on the grandstand side of each track and directed toward pit road to monitor pit stops and officials call or clear penalties.
    ” Every camera looks at two pit stalls and the cameras record 100 percent of the race.
    ” Video feeds from cameras are fed to a production truck in the TV compound where eight NASCAR officials monitor stops for violations.
    ” Pit road speeding penalties will still be called from race control based on scoring loops.

    ” Missing Lug Nuts are no longer a penalty.

  • How to Calculate Track Speeds: use the formula Speed = Distance divided by Time. Distance is Track Length, and Lap Time into Hours. Once hour is 3600 seconds, so the calculation for a 48 second lap at Daytona(2.5 miles) would be: Speed = 2.5 x (3600/48), = 2.5 x 75 = 187.500mph. For a 19 second lap at Bristol(.533 miles): Speed = .533 x (3600/19), = .533 x 189.474 = a speed of 100.990mph

    Left-side — 87.32 in. (2,218 mm);

  • Minimum Recommended Inflation:
    Left Front — 23 psi; Left Rear – 21 psi;

  • Notes: Teams in all three NASCAR series will run the same tire set-up this week . . . this left-side tire code (D-4392) has been run by all NASCAR teams at Chicagoland since 2011 . . . this right-side tire code (D-4618) was run at Chicagoland by Sprint Cup teams only last September . . . Xfinity teams switched to this right-side tire at this track earlier this season, while this is the first Chicagoland race with this right-side for Camping World Truck teams . . . this right-side tire employs Goodyear’s multi-zone tread technology, which combines two distinct tread compounds on the same tire — one on the inboard two inches of the tread for endurance and heat resistance, and one on the outboard 10 inches of the tread for traction . . . all these teams ran this same combination of left- and right-side tires at Texas earlier this season . . . they are scheduled to run it again at both Texas and Homestead at the end of the season . . . this tire combination was confirmed for Chicagoland in a tire test at the track on July 13-14 . . . drivers participating in that test were Dale Earnhardt Jr., Sam Hornish, Martin Truex Jr. and J.J. Yeley . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Chicagoland . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.
