    • Harvick wins at Dover: #4-Kevin Harvick won the AAA 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway for his 3rd win of the season, 1st win at Dover and 31st career win. He dominated most of the race, leading 355 of the 400 laps.
      Harvick had to win the race to advance to the Contender round of the Chase.
      #18-Busch finished 2nd followed by #88-Earnhardt, Jr., #1-McMurray, #43-Almirola, #5-Kahne, #20-Kenseth, #17-Stenhouse, Jr., #42-Larson, and #22-Logano.
      Drivers advancing to the Contender Round of the Chase: #20-Kenseth, #11-Hamlin, #4-Harvick, #22-Logano, #19-Edwards, #78-Truex, #24-Gordon, #41-Busch, #2-Keselowski, #31-Newman, #18-Busch, and #88-Earnhardt, Jr.

    • Friday afternoon weather update: Rain forced the cancellation of all on-track activities at Dover on Friday. Saturday’s schedule now includes 2 Cup practices, an XFINITY practice (teams will practice rather than qualify) and the XFINITY Series race. However, rain will still be an issue.

    • Friday’s on track activity canceled: Because of the continued rainfall, NASCAR and Dover International Speedway have announced the cancellation of today’s on-track activities. The “Drive Sober 125” NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race will now be run at 9:30am on Saturday, Oct. 3. Grandstand gates at Dover International Speedway will open for fans at 8:00am. The Saturday, Oct. 3 “Hisense 200” NASCAR XFINITY Series race will start at the originally scheduled time of 3:30pm.
      Because both events will be run on the same day, for the convenience of fans, Dover International Speedway will allow anyone with a previously purchased NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race ticket or a NASCAR XFINITY Series race ticket to remain in the grandstands for both events if they choose. The ticket holder that holds the ticket for that specific event will have priority (i.e. a ticket to the NASCAR XFINITY Series race during the running of that race) for the seating location. The other ticket holder is asked to move to a nearby, or general admission, seating area for the event. Fans are asked to please contact your usher with any questions or concerns.
      The Sunday, Oct. 4 “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race will start at its originally scheduled time at 2:30pm.
      Qualifying for all three series this weekend has been canceled. Starting lineups will be set by NASCAR rulebooks.

    • Dover Weather Update: The odds of the U.S. mainland seeing its first landfalling hurricane in 15 months are dwindling as the forecast track continues to trend farther to the east. The best chance for an East Coast landfall is now shifting toward New England, but if Joaquin’s center should reach land there, it would likely do so as a tropical storm rather than a hurricane. Residents along the East Coast of the U.S. should still pay close attention to the forecast now through this weekend. It’s a particularly difficult forecast that hinges on the behavior of several different atmospheric features over North America and the North Atlantic Ocean. On Thursday, computer models moved closer to a consensus, as models formerly bullish on a U.S. landfall began pulling their forecast paths east, favoring tracks closer to the Atlantic seaboard or even entirely offshore. The model consensus as of Thursday evening, reflected to some extent in the National Hurricane Center’s 8 p.m. advisory, favors a track east of the East Coast.(Weather Channel)
      AND: According to the Delaware Emergency Management Agency, “Heavy rainfall will impact the region [Thursday] into early Saturday morning, along with the risk of localized inland flooding. Moderate to major coastal flooding is expected on Friday and Saturday. The threat of impacts from Hurricane Joaquin has lessened. We have a statement from the Office of Governor Markell related to when or if a State of Emergency will be declared for Delaware: ‘The decision to declare a State of Emergency is made on a case-by-case basis and dependent on several factors, including road conditions, weather forecasts and feedback from state and local agencies throughout Delaware. We are continuing to monitor the storm and its potential impact on Delaware, and will make a decision regarding the issuance of a state of emergency if conditions warrant it.’ “
      AND: The Thursday evening National Weather Service forecast is:
      Friday – Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 56. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
      Saturday – Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 64. Breezy, with a northeast wind around 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
      Sunday – Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 69. Breezy. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
      So: While the chance of Hurricane Joaquin hitting Dover is lessening and the forecast is looking better, weather will still dominate the weekend. Friday looks like it will be washed out. Saturday is slightly better, but still very questionable. Sunday sees a greater chance of racing than it appeared 24 hours ago, but again with a narrow window to get the race in (Dover does not have lights), the odds aren’t good. However, the forecast could continue to improve. Monday’s current forecast is for a 60% chance of rain, Tuesday’s is 30% chance. NASCAR and the track continue to monitor the situation and will make announcements as warranted.(10-2-2015)

    • Hurricane Joaquin could impact Dover weekend: Hurricane warnings have been expanded to include more of the Bahamas as Hurricane Joaquin churns toward the nation of islands east of Florida. Despite considerable uncertainty, the odds of a landfall on the U.S. East Coast appear to be increasing, and the official forecast track suggests that Joaquin could become the first landfalling hurricane on the U.S. mainland in 15 months.
      Computer forecast models – and the meteorologists who rely on them for guidance – are grappling with a complex interaction between Joaquin, a cold front near the East Coast, the remnants of Tropical Storm Ida, a strong bubble of high pressure aloft over the North Atlantic Ocean, and a potentially strong area of low pressure aloft digging into the southeastern U.S. later this week.
      The American GFS model forecast continues to show Joaquin making an alarming northwestward turn, slamming it right into Virginia, Maryland or North Carolina this weekend. Meanwhile, the European ECMWF model suggests Joaquin has a chance of staying away from the U.S. East Coast.
      Regardless of the ultimate outcome of Joaquin’s path, portions of the East Coast will still see multiple impacts from the evolving large-scale weather pattern, including flooding rainfall, gusty winds, high surf, beach erosion and some coastal flooding.(Weather Channel)
      AND: Dover Speedway will post weather updates to their website. As of Wednesday afternoon, “There is still a lot of uncertainty to the forecast for this weekend, and we continue to monitor the weather closely. Historically, changes that NASCAR makes to the on-track schedule are not made until the day of each event. We will update you quickly if changes must be made to the schedule as a result of the weather.”
      AND: As of Wednesday evening, the National Weather Service forecast calls for a 90% chance of rain on Friday, with 1 to 2 inches of perciptation, a 70% chance of rain on Saturday, and a 70% chance of rain on Sunday.
      AND: Dover International Speedway does not have lights and sunset will be at 6:40pm/et Sunday. With the race start scheduled for 2:45pm/et, there will not be a lot of time available to dry the track if it’s raining. If NASCAR is not able to get the race in on Sunday, they will try again on Monday and could run the race on Tuesday if needed. Sprint Cup teams race at Charlotte next week, with on track activity scheduled to begin on Thursday. Haulers are scheduled to park at Charlotte Motor Speedway Wednesday evening.
      The track of the hurricane should come more into focus by Thursday evening.(10-1-2015)
