2016 NASCAR XFINITY Series Team/Driver Chart
2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Team/Driver Chart

  • 2016 Rookie of the Year Candidates (ROTY)

    #21-Ryan Blaney
    #34-Chris Buescher
    #32/#83-Jeffrey Earnhardt (20-32 races)
    #24-Chase Elliott
    #44-Brian Scott

rules WERE that the most Cup races a driver could run in a season and still run for ROTY were seven
BUT looks like that rule can be waived if driver has not run for Cup Series points.
as long as the driver has not run too many Sprint Cup races in NASCAR’s opinion.
For instance, #6-Trevor Bayne was not eligible for Rookie of the Year in 2015
as NASCAR said he ran too many past Sprint Cup Series races.

Unofficial rules and info about the Sunoco Rookie of the Year program can be found on:
Jayski.com’s 2016 Rookie of the Year Page

NOTE on YELLOW STRIPES:
sometimes a driver not a candidate for the ROTY award may run the yellow stripes on the
back bumper of their car if running on a race track the driver has never competed on before

CreditOne will be the primary sponsor for three races in 2016, first one at Richmond in April (2-9-2016). Cessna will have a new paint scheme in 2016 (12-18-2015). Rumors that Clint Bowyer would come over to a third CGR team were untrue, Bowyer said he would not follow Kauffman to CGR and the CGR said they are not expanding to a third team in 2016 (8-21-2015). Michael Waltrip Racing principal Owner Rob Kauffman bought into Chip Ganassi Racing. At first it was reported Kauffman would buy out co-owner Felix Sabates, but Sabates says he in not selling or ‘going anywhere’. Some reports have Kauffman dropping his affiliation with MWR. Kauffman said on August 2nd that “any idea that I’m leaving [MWR] or taking anything is actually misplaced. What we’re actually doing is integrating the businesses, trying to get the most competitive product on track,” and indicated there are many details still to be determined. Reports have #15-Clint Bowyer and some of MWR sponsors [5-Hour Energy, Aaron’s, Peak, AAA, Maxwell House] moving to Chip Ganassi Racing. Other reports have MWR merging into CGR and being a four-car team, all with Chevy. CGR principal Owner Chip Ganassi would continue to retain majority control (8-2-2015). McDonald’s and Cessna were the main sponsors of the #1 in 2015, combining to be primary or co-sponsors in 29 races. Bass Pro Shops, Energizer and Sherwin Williams sponsored the car for one race. Boris Said will probably not return to the team as Said mentioned in August it was his final NASCAR race (9-19-2015). The team says it needs additional sponsorship to commit to a longer term deal and start a 2nd team. The team will move from Chevy to Toyota, getting chassis and engines from Joe Gibbs Racing / TRD (9-26-2015). Reports have FRR switching to Toyota in 2016 (9-19-2015). Toyota has been courting Furniture Row Racing for 2016, especially after Michael Waltrip Racing not fielding cars in 2016. If FRR moves to Toyota, they could start a 2nd team, one rumor has Clint Bowyer as the driver of the 2nd team, bringing 5-Hour Energy as the sponsor. Martin Truex Jr. says he has a handshake deal to stay with the #78 team but nothing has been official announced. FRR would like to start a 2nd team, but doesn’t expect that until 2017 at the earliest. Cole Pearn was promoted in 2015 from lead race engineer to crew chief and is expected back in 2016. Could stay aligned with Richard Childress Racing in 2016 or move to Toyota (8-13-2015).

Doesn’t look like this team will run anymore races in 2016 as Mike Hillman Sr., the owner, took a job as the crew chief of the #46 HScott Motorsports team in July 2016 and Reed Sorenson, who drove in the Daytona 500 attempt, has been running most of the races for Premium Motorsports and crew chief Pat Tryson is also at the #55 (7-25-2016). In March 2016 Mike Hillman Sr. and partners Doug Fuller and Matt Miller filed suit against former partner Joe Falk, Circle Sport, Leavine Family Racing and Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing. After Carl Edwards left for Joe Gibbs Racing for the 2014 season, the #99 team didn’t run a race in 2014 or 2015.

25* x Chevy x Rick Hendrick x Hendrick Motorsports
Could only run this car for a rookie driver as a team can only run 4-full time teams/car. So no plans for HMS to run this fifth team after Chase Elliott takes over the #24 Chevy for retiring Jeff Gordon in 2016 (8-14-2015)
?29* ? Toyota ? RAB Racing

No word on future plans for this team (2-1-2016). Has not attempted a race since Auto Club in March, as of 8-14-2015. After failing to qualify for the first three races, the team skipped Phoenix to regroup but plans to attempt Auto Club Speedway (3-12-2015). Waltrip will run the Daytona 500 in the #83 Toyota with Matt DiBenedetto running the #93 at Daytona (2-5-2016). Waltrip announced in April and again in October 2015 that he plans to run the 2016 Daytona 500 with sponsorship from Maxwell House. No word what team will field the car for Waltrip or if he will run one from the former MWR shop or his own team. Waltrip said fe could field the car himself — the process of shutting down MWR will take until April — or bring the sponsorship to another team that fields Toyotas. “I’m going to Daytona in February with Maxwell House,” said Waltrip, who retired from full-time racing after the 2009 season but still competes in select restrictor-plate events. “There will be some cars left over at MWR and I’m probably in line to get a good Toyota engine, being a partner with those guys from the beginning” (12-31-2015). Aaron’s will not sponsor a team in 2016 but will look into participating in the sport via media, brand relationship and track activation (9-17-2015). Robert Kauffman said that MWR will cease operation and not run in 2016. Reports having the team selling assets and owners points (8-21-2015). Michael Waltrip Racing and Clint Bowyer have mutually agreed to separate at the conclusion of the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. Bowyer will be free to pursue other career options in 2016 and beyond. Team co-owner Rob Kauffman said MWR will not field a full-time NASCAR Sprint Cup entry in 2016 (8-19-2015). Ragan, who ran the car since Kansas in May, wants to return to the #55 but things at MWR are up in the air. Aaron’s is not signed as the sponsor in 2016 and word is they are shopping around to other teams. Ragan is signed thru the end of 2015 as is former driver Brian Vickers (put with blood clots) and former sub and MWR development driver, Brett Moffitt. Moffitt was named in May as the primary driver for the #34 Front Row Motorsports ride, pretty much replacing Ragan, who started the season in the #34 at Daytona (8-7-2015).
Brian Vickers started out the season by missing Daytona and Atlanta recovering from heart surgery. Vickers returned at Las Vegas and Phoenix before being sidelined again with a re-occurrence of blood clots, which required Vickers to take blood-thinning medication. Vickers was not able to race while on the medicine and announced in May he would not return to the car for the rest of the season, Vickers was signed thru 2015. Brett Moffitt ran the car from Auto Club in March until Richmond in April. Michael Waltrip ran at Talladega. The team then hired David Ragan to run the #55 car the rest of the 2015 season (5-8-2015).
