RACE RUNDOWN….News & Links

Martin Truex Jr. advances to Championship 4 with dominant Martinsville win: It took a post-race fracas on pit road to distract from the dominance of Martin Truex Jr., who led a career-best 464 laps in winning Sunday’s First Data 500 at Martinsville Speedway and punched his ticket for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Championship 4 race. The 2017 Cup Series champion took the lead from pole winner Denny Hamlin off pit road on Lap 30 under the first of 11 cautions and held it the rest of the way, save for a six-lap stint where Kyle Larson stayed out on old tires near the end of the second 130-lap stage. Denied victory by Joey Logano’s bump-and-run in last year’s Playoff race at the .526-mile track, Truex won for the first time at the venerable short track, for the seventh time this season and the 26th time in this career.[More](10-27-2019)

#19-Martin Truex, Jr. won the First Data 500 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Raceway. The win is his 7th win of 2019, 1st win at Martinsville and 26th career win. Truex dominated the entire race, leading 464 of the 500 laps. The win locks him into the Championship race at Homestead.
#24-Byron finished second, followed by #2-Keselowski, pole winner#11-Hamlin, #12-Blaney, #1-Busch, #4-Harvick, #22-Logano, #42-Larson, and #6-Newman.
Stage 1 and 2 were both won by #19-Truex.
Playoff drivers that had issues:
#42-Larson lost a lap during the first stage but got the free pass and was able to stay on the lead lap the rest of the day.
#9-Elliott broke an axle during the first caution in stage 2. He had to go to the garage for repairs and lost more than 50 laps. He finished 36th.
On lap 361, an accident involved #18-Busch, but he suffered only minor damage. He finished 14th.
#22-Logano spun with 42 laps remaining, after a tire went down following contact with #11-Hamlin. Logano rebounded to finish 8th. After the race, Logano and Hamlin had words on pit road until Logano gave Hamlin a shove to the shoulder. Hamlin chased after Logano, crew members got involved and there was some brief shoving.
There were  3 lead changes among 3 drivers and 11 cautions for 69 yellow flag laps.
The average speed of the race was: 75.448.
