A fight broke out after the race among Kyle Petty and his crew and members of Johnny Benson's crew. Petty explained that a misunderstanding on the track at the time of the rain delay (Benson apparently not liking that Petty and two other drivers passed him in the race

The Winston will no longer be open to non-winners. The rules have now been altered to include only winners in the field. That includes drivers and car-owners who have won races in the previous year and the current year, past Winston Cup champions, winners of The Winston
