NASCAR Busch Series News and Notes – Federated Auto Parts 300

Is he going for a two-fer? A sweep? A three-peat? What about four on the floor?

Whatever the term, Carl Edwards (#60 Dish Network Ford) aims to continue his hot streak – in the season and at Nashville Superspeedway, site of Saturday night’s Federated Auto Parts 300.

    Let’s review the definitions:

    • “Two-fer” – Edwards looks to win his second race in a row. He won at Dover International Speedway last Saturday. He won back-to-back races earlier this year at Bristol Motor Speedway and the first race at Nashville.

    • “Sweep” – Edwards won at Nashville in April and seeks to become the first driver to capture both races in the same season at the track.

    • “Three-peat” – In addition to his victory last April, Edwards also carries the distinction of defending race winner, having won this event one year ago. In the process, he became just the second driver to win more than one race at the 1.33-mile concrete oval. Scott Riggs won in 2002 and again in ’03.

    • “Four on the floor” – The series points leader is also the season leader in victories with three. A fourth win would not only pad that lead but put him in pretty exclusive company.

Since the series’ inception in 1982, only seven drivers have won four or more races through the first 15 events of the season.

Two-time series champion Sam Ard had six wins in the first 15 races in 1984 to lead the group. Another two-time champion, Martin Truex Jr., is the last driver to register four wins after 15 races when he did so in 2004. Truex went on to win six races that year. The series record for wins in a season is held by Ard with 10 in 1983.

Back To Basics: Saturday Night At Nashville Returns Series To Roots

The entry list for Nashville is a combination of series veterans and new faces – a mix that give this race the true feel of a NASCAR Busch Series event.

Bobby Hamilton Jr., Jason Keller (#11 CJM Racing Chevy) and David Green (#91 YRT2 Toyota) – the 1994 series champion who won at Nashville in 2003 – are veterans who call the series home. The trio will be on a series track together for the first time since the Michigan race in 2004.

The race will also help introduce fans to new faces, including Green’s teammate Bobby Santos (#92 Riley-D’Hondt Motorsports Toyota); Kevin Harvick Inc. teammates Cale Gale (#33 Camping World Chevy) and Kertus Davis (#77 Dollar General Chevy), Timothy Peters (#21 AutoZone Chevy) and 20-year-old Chase Miller (#9 Lipton Dodge) who will make his series debut for Evernham Motorsports.

The infusion of fresh names adds to some talented up-and-coming young series regulars who are poised to take advantage of their opportunity at Nashville – like Steve Wallace (#66 HomeLife Communities Dodge), Stephen Leicht (#90 CitiFinancial Ford), Aric Almirola (#20 Rockwell Automation Chevy), Danny O’Quinn Jr. (#56 Power Equipment Co. Ford), last year’s Raybestos Rookie of the Year.

In The Loop: Edwards Strong At Nashville, But Series Regulars Have High Marks, Too

If this weekend’s NASCAR Busch Series race at Nashville Superspeedway is anything like the event this past April, expect lots of competitive balance in the equation.

The April race, won by Carl Edwards, had nine different leaders – six of which led at least 20 laps.

In the end, Edwards proved to be the class of the field, but he had stiff competition from the likes of David Reutimann (#99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota), Jason Leffler (#38 Great Clips Toyota) and Shane Huffman (#88 U. S. NAVY Chevy).

Reutimann, who led 35 laps in a second-place finish, had a second-best Driver Rating of 123.9, a second-best Average Running Position of 4.347, 10 Fastest Laps Run (third-most) and the third-fastest Green Flag Speed at 160.060 mph. His first national series win in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition came at the track.

Leffler also challenged for the win. He led 38 laps that race, had a Driver Rating of 118.8 (third-best), an Average Running Position of 4.444 and had 24 Fastest Laps Run which was second-most.

Huffman, another of the series’ key regulars, had an Average Running Position of 5.080 and a Driver Rating of 114.2 in the April Nashville race.

But it was Edwards who placed himself at the top of most of the Loop Data categories. He had race-best figures in Average Running Position (3.382), Driver Rating (144.5), Fastest Laps Run (65) and Green Flag Speed (160.449 mph).

Another driver to watch Saturday is Nashville’s favorite son, Bobby Hamilton Jr. (#35 McDonald’s Ford). He finished ninth in April and scored an impressive Average Running Position of 7.756 and a Driver Rating of 101.1. He also ranked second in Quality Passes (passes of cars in the top 15 under green) with 32.

Clint Bowyer is another driver who has had past success at Nashville. Though he did not race there in April, he will pull double duty this weekend and race in Nashville and at the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Poco#He won at Nashville in 2005 and finished second in both races there in 2006. At Nashville, he has a series-best Driver Rating of 128.4 and an Average Running Position of 4.434.

    • Labonte Tests in Montreal: Two-time NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series champion Terry Labonte – who also has 11 NASCAR Busch Series wins, four of those at Watkins Glen International – will participate in a one-day test at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Tuesday, June 12. Labonte will drive the #21 Chevy of Richard Childress Racing and similar to Jeff Burton’s test in Mexico City three years ago also in RCR equipment, will be on point for information to be shared among all teams participating in the August 4 event. Labonte, like Burton, was selected since he’s not running in the event.
The test will consist of two sessons; 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 5:00 p.m. at the 2.709-mile road course located on a man-made island on the St. Lawrence River. Media may enter the track beginning at 11:30 a.m. and a press conference featuring Labonte, NASCAR competition executives and the race promoter is scheduled for noon at the track. Log on to NASCARMedia.com for further information and application for credentials to attend.
    • Double-Duty Drivers: The second Nashville race kicks off the portion of the stand-alone season where double-duty drivers will have subs for practice and qualifying. Nine drivers are scheduled for double duty in Nashville and at Pocono Raceway this weekend. Matt McCall will sub for points leader Carl Edwards while Auggie Vidovich does the same for Edwards’ teammate David Ragan. Brandon Miller stands in for Clint Bowyer; Chad Blount for Dave Blaney (#10 Camping World Toyota); Scott Lagasse Jr. for David Stremme; Jay Sauter for J.J. Yeley (#1 Miccosukee Resort Chevy) and Mark Green for David Reutimann. Subs for Greg Biffle and Mike Bliss (#22 Family Dollar Dodge) are to be announced.
    • Hamilton Jr. Seeks His “Indy”: Indiana native Tony Stewart craved to win the Brickyard 400, which he finally did in his seventh try. Denny Hamlin, a Virginia native, has echoed those same sentiments, saying a win at Richmond would be the biggest of his career. Bobby Hamilton Jr. has those same feelings about a victory at Nashville. That city’s favorite son has three top fives and five top 10s in eight races at the track – including a runner-up finish in 2002.
    • Bires Replaces Wood At Nashville: Wood Brothers/JTG Racing announced Tuesday that developmental driver Kelly Bires, driver of the team’s #21 Ford in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competition, will stand in for Jon Wood in the #47 Clorox/American Red Cross Ford this weekend at Nashville. Travis Kvapil drove for Wood at Dover last Saturday.
Bires (prounounced BY–ers) is a 22-year old native of Mauston, Wis., who has started six races in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series this season, five for Wood Bros./JTG Racing. He posted his career-best finish (10th) at Atlanta earlier this year.
Prior to Dover, Wood had started 83 consecutive races in the NASCAR Busch Series dating back to 2004, his first full season in the series. He was 22nd in the point standings with one top-10 finsih this season – 10th at Mexico City in March – prior to Dover.

    The Director’s Take: Nashville

WHAT TO WATCH FOR AT NASHVILLE: THOUGHTS FROM JOE BALASH, NASCAR BUSCH SERIES DIRECTOR

“Nashville is a big, wide track so there’s not a tendency for drivers to get into each other. Fuel economy is going to be a big factor because the track lends itself to a lot of long green flag runs.

“From the team perspective, those who nail the shock and spring set-up are going to be the ones to beat. Getting those dialed in so the car carries its corner speed is going to be the key to this race. It’s all about getting the car to turn through the corners without pushing.”

“Even though we’re headed to our second concrete track in two weeks, tire wear isn’t as critical an issue at Nashville as it was at Dover.

“The surface at Nashville isn’t as abraisive as it is at Dover. And the banking at Dover is more severe, even in the straightatways. Nashville’s long back straight away gives the tires a chance to cool down.”

Rookie Spotlight: Ambrose Catches Ragan At Top Of Leader Board

    • Gotcha, Mate – Ambrose Pulls Even With Ragan: For the first time in six races, Marcos Ambrose (#59 Kingsford Ford) finds himself back on top of the Raybestos Rookie standings, tied in points (139) with David Ragan (#6 Discount Tire Ford) – who was in first place during Ambrose’s absence. The native of Launceston, Tasmania, finished a career-best sixth at Dover and was within laps of registering his first top-five finish. His previous best result was eighth at the Mexico City race in March.

    • Ragan’s Woes: Ragan, meanwhile, is searching for answers following his second sub-par finish in succession. He was 25th two weeks ago in Charlotte and followed up with a DNF due to an accident, relegating him to a 32nd-place finish at Dover. His outing at Nashville last April wasn’t kind, either, as an accident left him with a season-worst 36th-place finish.

    • Rookie Reunion At Nashville: Seven of the 11 drivers in the Raybestos Rookie program this season are entered at Nashville, the most since nine ran at Richmond International Raceway last month. Justin Diercks (#70 Foretravel Chevy) and Bobby Santos are both entered in their first events since Richmond.

Edwards, Ford Have The Upper Hand At Nashville, But Toyota Was Strong In April Debut

Carl Edwards’ series-leading third win of the season has helped Ford cut into Chevy’s lead in the Bill France Performance Cup standings as the series makes its second and final appearance of the season at Nashville.

Ford registered its first win since Edwards’ Roush Fenway Racing teammate Matt Kenseth won at Texas two months ago and comes to the Music City 12 points behind first-place Chevy.

Ford holds favored status this weekend in Nashville as Edwards goes for the season sweep of the two events and his third victory in a row at the 1.33-mile concrete track. Edwards’ recent success gives the manufacturer five wins at Nashville, tied with Chevy – Chevy had won four of the previous five races before the current streak by Edwards and Ford. Third-place Dodge intervened in Chevy’s recent run with a 2005 win by Reed Sorenson.

But fourth-place Toyota could surprise. It had a strong series debut at Nashville last April by placing three cars in the top five in positions 2, 3 and 4.

Up Next: Meijer 300 Presented By Oreo At Kentucky Speedway

The NASCAR Busch Series travels to the site of one of the most memorable wins in its 26-year history next week. Kentucky Speedway is the place for the Meijer 300 on June 16.

Last year, virtual unknown David Gilliland – a part-time driver with a part-time team – swept past J.J. Yeley in the closing laps to secure his first NASCAR national series win and a place in series lore.

Gilliland’s win continued what has become a Kentucky Speedway norm – a new face in Victory Lane. No driver has registered a repeat win at Kentucky and the same goes for the winners of the Busch Pole – there have been six different polesitters as well.

The pre-race festivities feature 70’s rock icon Peter Frampton, who will perform prior to the start of the 300-mile, 200-lap evert at the 1.5-mile oval.

NASCAR Busch Series News and Notes – Dover 200

Putting It Into “Dover-Drive:” Jeff Burton’s 2006 Win Started His Surge DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 29, 2007) – Jeff Burton (#29 Holiday Inn Chevy) had a good start to his 2006 season in both NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series competition, but after winning last year’s Dover 200, both of his series seasons seemed to click.

Burton had ended a national series winless streak that dated back to 2001 with a NASCAR Busch Series win at Atlanta Motor Speedway in March last season, but it’s the Dover win that truly launched his special year.

The 39-year-old South Boston, Va., native who is tied for fourth on the all-time series wins list with 24 – two of those wins came in succession this year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Atlanta – ran off four top fives and five top-10 finishes in the remaining nine NASCAR Busch Series races on his schedule after he won at Dover one year ago.

The resurgence was also evident in his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup ride as he surged in the point standings to not only claim a spot in the 2006 Chase for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup, but took the lead after winning that series’ fall race at Dover. He held on to the top spot for the subsequent three races before eventually finishing seventh, his first foray into the Premier Series top 10 since 2001.

And the surge continues. In addition to the two NASCAR Busch Series wins this year, Burton is ninth in the points, the first time since 1999 he’s been in the top 10 more than once in the same season. He’s also fifth in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup standings with one win.

Top-10 Shuffle: Smith, Blaney Up; Reutimann, Hamilton Jr. Down

After 13 weeks of racing, the NASCAR Busch Series point standings are on either side of the lucky scale depending on which driver you talk to.

After seven consecutive weeks in the top 10 with a high ranking of fifth, Bobby Hamilton Jr. (#35 McDonald’s Ford) fell out of the standings after a season-worst 36th-place last Saturday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Hamilton is only four points out of finding his way back into the top 10, however.

David Reutimann (#99 Aaron’s Dream Machine Toyota) is also a bad-luck recipient as of late. After spending the last six weeks in the top 10, most recently ranked a career-high third following the event at Darlington Raceway, Reutimann is now fifth due to a 43rd place finish in Charlotte as a result of engine failure just four laps into the race. He’s still well within striking distance of spots within the top five, though.

Those who consider 13 lucky include Regan Smith (#4 Ginn Resorts Chevy) who has tied Reutimann with 1,393 points and is sixth in the standings, a career-best for the Cato, N.Y., native. He’s also the highest-ranked among series regulars and tied his career-best fifth-place finish at LMS.

Reutimann’s misfortune pushed Dave Blaney (#10 Fan1st.com Toyota) back into third place and within striking distance of reigning series champion Kevin Harvick (#77 Dollar General Chevy). Blaney comes to Dover 169 points behind second place Harvick.

In The Loop: Hamilton Jr.’s Dover History Could East Recent Slump

Jeff Burton returns to Dover International Speedway this weekend to defend his NASCAR Busch Series win of a year ago.  At that race, Burton flashed his veteran wile.  Driving arguably only the third-best car in that race, he captured the checkered flag, nudging out Carl Edwards (#60 Dish Network Ford) and Clint Bowyer, who led 67 and 62 laps, respectively. Burton led 19.

Burton earned a Driver Rating of 122.1 in that event and also had an Average Running Position of 8.410, a race-high 41 Fastest Laps Run and a race-high 24 Fastest Laps Run. Overall at Dover, Edwards has a Driver Rating of 103.9 and an Average Running Position of 7.6.

Another driver to watch this weekend is Ragan Smith who made a charge up the point standings with a fifth-place finish last weekend at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The performance, which matched his career-best finish, vaulted Smith from eighth to sixth place in the standings, another career mark.

He had the fourth-best Average Running Position (7.925), the fifth-best Driver Rating (105.7) and the eighth-fastest Green Flag Speed. Also, Smith spent only eight laps outside the top 15.

On the other hand, Bobby Hamilton Jr. has dropped from the top 10. Hamilton has struggled of late with finishes of 22nd, 20th and 33rd over his last three races. His fall peaked this past weekend in Charlotte, as he dropped from seventh to 12th in the standings.

Hamilton stats at LMS were below par as well. Hamilton had an Average Running Position of 36.315 and a Driver Rating of 38.1. Coming into the Lowe’s race, he had a season-to-date Average Running Position of 22.477 and a Driver Rating of 64.3.

There is light at the end of the tunnel for Hamilton, though, who finished second at Dover in 2003 and fourth in ‘04, the last time he raced at at The Monster Mile in NASCAR Busch Series competition.

    • Time To Walk The Walk: Track activity will be far from over following Saturday’s Dover 200. The fourth annual NASCAR Foundation Track Walk returns, offering fans the opportunity to walk The Monster Mile while raising money for The NASCAR Foundation and its Family of Charities organizations that participate in the event.Over 1,200 participants including fans – and drivers – joined the walk last year. Juan Pablo Montoya (#42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge), Greg Biffle (#16 3M Ford), Ward Burton (#27 Kleenex Ford) and J.J. Yeley (#1 Miccosukee Resorts Chevy) are among the NASCAR Busch Series drivers scheduled to walk following the Dover 200.

“With over 1,200 people participating in the 2006 event, we hope that the 2007 walk can provide even more support for all the charities that are participating,” said Mike Helton, president of NASCAR and The NASCAR Foundation.

Fans can register online by accessing the NASCAR Foundation website at www.foundation.nascar.com.

    • Also Of Note: Kasey Kahne (#9 Wisk Dodge) goes for back-to-back wins this weekend. He captured last Saturday’s race in Charlotte. Jeff Burton and Carl Edwards have won consecutive races this season.
    • Jason Keller (#11 CJM Racing Chevy) goes for start #404 at Dover. He’s chasing the all-time record of 417 set by Tommy Houston.
    • Shane Huffman (#88 U.S. NAVY Chevy) is scheduled to visit Bethesda Naval Hospital and the Navy Investigative Services headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday prior to arriving in Dover.
    • Keep an eye on Steve Wallace (#66 HomeLife Communities Dodge). The 19-year-old now has his uncle, NASCAR Busch Series veteran Kenny Wallace, spotting for him and the RWI team has traditionally done well at Dover. …
    • James Hylton (#01 RACEGIRL Chevy), 72, and Morgan Shepherd (#89 Victory in Jesus Racing Dodge), 65, are entered at Dover. Shepherd won at Dover from the Busch Pole in 1986.
    • In addition to Shepherd, there are five other former winners at Dover entered in the field including two-time victors and Roush Fenway teammates Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth (#17 Arby’s Ford). Kenseth’s win in 1998 came one day before his NASCAR NEXTEL Cup debut. His seven top-five finishes are the most among all drivers in NASCAR Busch Series competition at the track and his 637 laps led are the most among active drivers at The Monster Mile.

    The Director’s Take: Dover

WHAT TO WATCH FOR AT DOVER: THOUGHTS FROM JOE BALASH,NASCAR BUSCH SERIES DIRECTOR

“Dover lives up to its “Monster Mile” nickname due to the loads that are placed on all of the chassis parts. The high banking and high speeds also place a lot of stress on all of the suspension parts.

“The concrete surface will be a factor, too. Teams will need to manage their tires since Dover is one of four tracks we go to this year where only five sets of tires can be used. The majority of our events utilize six sets for practice, qualifying and the race.

“Pit strategy plays a big part at this race. Pit road at Dover is tight with concrete boxes, so drivers need to have their cars under control and not slide the tires. This is key especially if they’re making a two-tire stop.

Lastly, teams may gamble on taking fuel only to gain track position.”

Rookie Spotlight: Ambrose Righting The Ship

    • High Five: Ragan Ups Lead Over Montoya: increased his lead from two to five points over Juan Pablo Montoya following last Saturday night’s race in Charlotte. Ragan’s finish wasn’t sharp – 25th – but it was enough to pad his lead after Montoya’s 40th-place result due to an accident. That finish was his worst since the start of the season at Daytona when he was also saddled with 40th.

    • Ambrose Regains Some Footing: Early-season surprise Marcos Ambrose (#59 Kingsford Ford) led the standings as recently as after Talladega but has lacked consistency since Atlanta where he finished 28th. Ambrose had four top-20 finishes in his first seven races – including two top 10s – but averaged a forgetful 26th over his next four events. But he’s picked up his performance over the last two races with finishes of 19th and 20th, respectively.

    • Richardson Returns: Robert Richardson Jr. is scheduled to drive the #28 U.S. Border Patrol Chevy for Haas/CNC Racing at Dover. Richardson’s last race was at Talladega Superspeedway in April where he posted his career-best finish (19th).

Chevy Rules In Manufacturer Standings And At Dover, But Dodge Could Factor In

Chevy remains solidly in the lead in the Bill France Performance Cup standings as the NASCAR Busch Series moves on to Dover. Chevy is also the leader in victories at The Monster Mile, having won 20 times at the track, including two in a row and six of the last eight races there.

Ford – second in the standings – broke into that streak with a Greg Biffle  victory in this race in 2004. But it’s Dodge (third in the rankings) that snapped Chevy’s string most recently with a victory by Ryan Newman in the fall race in 2005, and it’s Dodge that may have an upper hand in once again challenging Chevy this weekend.

Kasey Kahne captured the manufacturer’s second win of the season last Saturday at Lowe’s Motor Speedway and first since Juan Pablo Montoya won in Mexico City in March. Dodge also had two cars in the top 10 in this event last year at Dover.

Toyota, 11 points behind Dodge in the standings, will make its debut at Dover.

Up Next: Federated Auto Parts 300 Presented By Dollar General At Nashville Superspeedway

The first portion of the summer’s “stand-alone” season begins June 9 at Nashville Superspeedway when the NASCAR Busch Series makes its second visit of the year to the 1.333-mile track for a Saturday night event.

Standings leader Carl Edwards won this race last year while Roush Fenway teammate Todd Kluever captured his first career Busch Pole. Edwards will seek his second consecutive victory at Nashville after also winning arguably the most coveted trophy in the series – the Gibson guitar custom-painted by famed NASCAR artist Sam Bass – this past April.

The Federated Auto Parts 300 presented by Dollar General is the first of three consecutive stand-alone events for the NASCAR Busch Series in the month of June; solo races at Kentucky Speedway (June 16) and The Milwaukee Mile (June 23) follow.

NASCAR News & Notes – Bristol:

From the first short track of the season to using current owner points to set the top-30 qualifiers to the physical differences in cars on the track, this weekend’s Sharpie Mini 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway brings a plethora of change to the NASCAR Busch Series.

Finally getting back to its roots, the series will appear on a short track for the first time in 2007 after having raced on a superspeedway, a speedway, two intermediate tracks and a road course.

Saturday’s race will be the sixth of the NASCAR Busch Series season, marking the first event of the year where the top 30 in 2007 owner points are automatically set for qualifying. The first five races of the year used the top-30 owner points from 2006. Owners will have had to attempt every event to date in order to hold a spot in the top 30 heading to Bristol, which means the likes of J.J. Yeley (#1 Miccosukee Resorts Chevy – 35th in owner points), Brad Keselowski (#23 Oklahoma Centennial Chevy – 41st in owner points), Greg Biffle (#37 Cub Cadet Ford – 33rd in owner points), Eric McClure (#0 Hefty Chevy – 39th in owner points) and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (#8 Menards Chevy – one attempt) will have to qualify on time.

Additionally, the debut of the Car of Tomorrow in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Sunday adds another different competition component to NASCAR’s top two national series. The adjustable wing and adjustable splitter on the COT – scheduled to race in 16 events this year, 10 of which are companion races with the NASCAR Busch Series – are the major changes to the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup car versus the NASCAR Busch Series car.

But what hasn’t changed is the transfer of safety initiatives in either series from the Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C., including: roof flaps, more robust seats, extra netting inside the cars, head and neck restraints, automatic fire extinguishers, stronger and safer fuel cells and relocation of ballast weight among many others.

Dodge Moves Into Second In Manufacturer Standings

The Bill France Performance Cup standings are getting close after the fifth race of the season.
Dodge made the big move this week taking the second spot by two points, dropping Ford to third.
Chevy continues to lead and now has a 38-race streak in first place dating back to last season.
Toyota is still seeking its first-ever series win and is currently in fourth, six points out of third place.

In The Loop: Newman Could Surprise At Bristol

Usually, it’s the Matt Kenseths (#17 Dish Network Ford) and Kevin Harvicks (#33 Bounty Super Duty Shot Towels Chevy) whose names you’d expect to see dotted throughout the Loop Data stats whenever the NASCAR Busch Series visits a short track like Bristol Motor Speedway.

Make no mistake, those names are still there, but a name you wouldn’t quite expect to see is also there: Ryan Newman (#12 Kodak Dodge).

Newman, known more for his wide-open style of racing, does have a win at Bristol (2005). In two races there, he has the highest average Driver Rating (132.7), almost 15 points higher than second-place Harvick (117.9), and the highest Average Running Position of any driver at 5.264. Newman’s Speed in Traffic – which is always prevalent at Bristol – is second best.

But, not surprisingly, Harvick and Kenseth have also fared very well at Bristol. Along with the second-best Driver Rating, Harvick’s Average Running Position of 9.062 is fifth-best and he has the highest number of Quality Passes – passes of cars in the top 15 while under green flag conditions – with 64. Harvick won a race at Bristol in 2005. Harvick’s Speed in Traffic is sixth-best.

Kenseth, who won the last race held at Bristol, has a Driver Rating of 109.5, which is sixth-best. His Average Running Position is a seventh-best 9.952. Kenseth’s Speed in Traffic is eighth-quickest.
Another driver worth watching is Kyle Busch (#5 Sta-Green/Lowe’s Chevroet), who has run extremely well over the past two races but had fallen on hard luck in each of them. Busch has some very solid numbers at Bristol. He has the eighth best Driver Rating at Bristol at 105.3 and the second-most Quality Passes of any driver running the race (49).

    NBS ETC.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is entered in his second NASCAR Busch Series event this season. The two-time series champion and current team owner will be racing against his driver Shane Huffman (#88 U.S. Navy Chevy). Earnhardt is known for his dominance on superspeedways, but he also excels at Bristol, where he won from the pole in 2004. … A global gathering in Bristol? With Juan Pablo Montoya (#42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge – Colombia), Marcos Ambrose (#59 Kingsford Ford – Australia), and Alex Garcia (#98 Dixien/Omni Source Corp. Chevy – Venezuela), the NASCAR Busch Series will be an international affair in the mountains of Tennessee this weekend. … Coeburn, Va., favorite son Danny O’Quinn Jr. (#56 McNelly Motorsports Chevy), who drove for Roush Fenway Racing last season and won the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Award, looks to make his series return for the first time since last November at Homestead-Miami Speedway. … Bobby Hamilton Jr. (#35 McDonald’s Ford) is from Nashville, Tenn., and will run in his home state for the first time in series competition since 2004. … Eric McClure (#0 Hefty Brand Chevy) is an Abingdon, Va., native, about a 20-minute drive from Bristol Motor Speedway.
