The second NASCAR exhibition race in Japan will feature a different qualifying and race format than it did in its inaugural event last November. In Last November’s event, qualifying consisted of timed laps plus a pit stop. The race featured an inverted field at the midpoint of the race. However, this will not be the case this year, as the rules will be much like a regular Winston Cup race. Qualifying will consist of two laps around Suzuka Circuitland’s 1.4-mile road course. The race will consist of 125 laps/175 miles and run just like a regular Winston Cup race, and the field will not be inverted. The Suzuka Thunder Special will be held at Suzuka Circuitland on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 12:30 p.m. Japan Time. The race will be aired live in the U.S. on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 p.m. EST. on TBS. I will update the list of drivers on the Stats page later(SpeedWorld)(7-16-97)
