“Washington/Erving Race Team to sponsor car in support of Scouting – Joe Washington, retired NFL running back for the Washington Redskins, announced sponsorship Monday by the NASCAR Washington /Erving Race Team of a prototype Ford stock car to bolster Scouting recruitment across the nation. Washington made the announcement before Hometown News correspondents. NASCAR is the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Team co-owner is NBA Hall of Famer Julius Erving, also known as “Dr. J.” The prototype Ford, emblazoned with the theme “Character Counts” on both sides, will be available for display at camporees, Scout-o-ramas, jamborees, car shows, all-star games and other sporting events. The car will be shown as a public service to make the point that character is required to win any race in life.
