“Rick Hendrick, accused of bribery in building his car dealership empire, pleaded guilty today in federal court to one count of mail fraud. At the hearing, Hendrick, who is being treated for leukemia, appeared to have trouble standing. He looked frail, his hair thin and face red. He said little beyond answering “yes, sir” to questions from U.S. Magistrate Judge Max O. Cogburn. The government was recommending a sentence of 10 to 16 months and a $250,000fine, and would agree to allow Hendrick to serve the time in home detention because of his illness. Hendrick will be sentenced sometime in the next 30 to 60 days.”(Charlotte Observer). Hendrick is of course the owner of the #5, 24 and 25 Winston Cup teams, hard to say what affect this will have on the teams(8-14-97)
