Donlavey Racing loses another fabricator

Having already lost a fabricator to Roush Racing, Richmond, Va.-based Donlavey Racing had a chassis specialist lured away this week by the first-year team owned by Bill Elliott and Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino. Team manager Jeff Kirk is frustrated by the defections, but yesterday flatly denied a rumor circulating through the garage area he’s considering leaving the single-car organization. Instead, Kirk talked of long-range plans for the car owned by Junie Donlavey and driven by Dick Trickle. He said he could see a day when he might consider moving into a general manager role and bring in someone else to serve as team manager. For now, his goal remains to finish the season among the top 25 teams in the points standings and thus punch Donlavey’s ticket to the awards banquet in New York.(Richmond Times-Dispatch)(4-25-98)
