Hendrick Motorsports is getting a chance to see how strong their team is today after a strange combination of events had the #24 DuPont Chevrolet grazing the turn two wall. Terry Labonte was filling in for the AWOL Jeff Gordon, and caught the turn two wall with the right side of the DuPont Chevy. The damage to the car could be considered minimal but the feelings of ill will appear to be close to the surface of this power team. According to Gordon’s PR person Jeff was not here in time for the morning practice session. She had no reason why Gordon was late and stated that it was very unusual for something like this to happen. See the rest of the story at Gordon a no-show while the #24 hits the wall.(GoRacing), Jayski note: from many readers – during the TBS broadcast(which I don’t get – thanks TCI in Wildwood!) they said Gordon overslept. Gordon had the car out in Happy Hour after the crew replaced a trailing arm, centerlink, and straighten and painted all rightside sheetmetal but without the decal on the right side. Gordon ran 6th fastest in Happy Hour.(5-23-98) (05-23-1998)
