Danny “Chocolate” Myers had the experience of a lifetime Saturday as he became the first crew member ever to gas a car in the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Myers, sporting a special uniform with IRL and Foyt team patches on one side and Goodwrench/NASCAR Winston Cup patches on the other, aided AJ Foyt’s driver Billy Boat to a 23rd place finish before hopping on a jet for the trip to Charlotte Motor Speedway. “It was altogether different from what we do in Winston Cup,” said Myers. “We proved it could be done. We flew up (to Indianapolis) on Saturday and had to get up early. We needed to be at the track at 4 am because the gates for the fans started opening at 5 am. We got to leave a little early since the team fell out of the race (after completing 111 of 200 laps). It was really one tremendous day and one neat deal.” The Richard Childress Racing team had a back-up plan in place just in case Chocolate was unable to make it back to Charlotte in time for the start of the race.
