NASCAR plans to develop a $7 million NASCAR Training Institute somewhere in the Charlotte region to train automotive technicians. The institute, to open in 2001, is one of as many as a half-dozen planned nationwide over the next few years by NASCAR and Phoenix, Ariz.-based Universal Technical Institute.
