Kevin Schwantz, driving the #78 Chevy in the Charlotte BGN race Saturday, hit the outside wall in Turn 2 and came back across the track, hitting hard on its right side against the inside wall at the head of the backstretch. Schwantz was taken to Carolinas Regional Medical Center with a fractured pelvis and a brain contusion(That’s Racin’), get well Kevin(5-30-1999) – UPDATE 1: Schwantz was upgraded to fair condition Sunday. Schwantz was originally diagnosed with a brain contusion and a fractured pelvis, and he was listed in serious condition when he was admitted. But doctors subsequently discovered that Schwantz, the 1995 Grand Prix world motorcycle champion, had actually fractured the hip during a previous cycling accident.
