In an effort to improve performance during the remainder of the 1999 season, Team Amick Motorsports owner Bill Amick announced today that a new driver and crew chief have been named to work with the team. Lyndon Amick, who has driven for Team Amick since its inception, will give up his seat after this weekend’s Textilease Medique 300 at South Boston Speedway. Plans call for Amick to pilot a second entry for the team at selected BGN events in 1999. Amick plans to return to run a full Busch Series campaign with the team in the year 2000. Elliott Sadler, who drives the #21 CITGO Ford in the Cup Series, is a Busch Series veteran, with wins at Rockingham, Bristol, and Nazareth. He also won the NASCAR Winston Racing Series track title at South Boston Speedway in 1995. Most recently, Sadler drove several Busch races while substituting for an injured Andy Santerre in the No. 47 MONRO Muffler Chevrolet. Sadler’s debut in the #35 SCANA/Powertel Chevy will come on July 17 at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Plans are for Craftsman Truck Series regular Mike Bliss to fill in during the two races leading up to that date. The other major change to the Team Amick organization came earlier this week with the departure of crew chief Buddy ?????Red Dog???? Barnes. Crewmember Brad Pickens has been named as the new crew chief for the No. 35 team, effective immediately. Pickens, 25, of Greer, SC, has been with Team Amick since its formation in 1995. Prior to accepting his new assignment, he served as both a mechanic and as the team’s jackman on pit stops(Team Amick PR)(6-10-1999)
