Bill Lester, a 38-year-old stock car rookie, became the first African American to make a BGN race at Watkins Glen. Lester, Hewlett-Packard design engineer, is taking a one-year leave of absence to determine whether he wants to pursue a career in career in motorsports. Ed Rensi, the former chairman of McDonalds USA who made the deal for Lester to drive in Bobby Hillin’s car last weekend, is working on several possible deals for Lester in the coming weeks, including running in some ARCA races(That’s Racin’)(7-1-1999)
