The Wells driver list: Cal Wells, who owns Precision Performance Inc., has talked to at least seven drivers about his Tide-sponsored Winston Cup ride for the 2000 season. According to sources, Wally Dallenbach, who currently drives the #25 Bud Chevy’s for Hendrick Motorsports, has emerged as the leading candidate for that ride. Wells has also talked with Cup drivers Jeremy Mayfield(#12), Ward Burton(#22), John Andretti(#43), Steve Grissom(no team) and CART drivers Al Unser Jr. and Scott Pruett about the ride. Mayfield and Burton both turned Wells’ offer down, sources said. The PPI team is currently working out of two 25,000-square-foot buildings in Hickory, N.C., while a permanent motorsports complex is completed nearby.
