I hear AJ Foyt will make the announcement on his Cup team Friday at 10:30am/et in Darlington — UPDATE: NOL reports – Conseco set to make announcement at 10:30am/et, hmm…AJ’s rumored sponsor…. — UPDATE 2 ANNOUCEMENT: happened early, per NOL – United States auto racing legend A.J. Foyt announced Friday morning prior to the opening of practice for NASCAR’s oldest superspeedway race at Darlington Raceway that he would return to the sanctioning body in 2000 as the owner of a fulltime NASCAR Winston Cup Series team. No plans to race in 1999, Foyt’s nephew Tommy LaMance, is the VP of the team, Waddell Wilson is already serving as general manager. Story also mentions no driver has been talked to, no crew chief chose(Wilson will do that) and no car manufacturer has been chosen. See full story at NOL . There is an image of a car, but it’s an old tbird, has a #14 on it which was supposedly assigned to the 2nd Morgan-McClure team(if it happens) and the Irvan-Simo team have ran in 1999(of course we know the #14 was made famous by AJ in his Indy Car days and he still uses it in the IRL on Bracls car). Also there is a Press Release on the Conseco Site — UPDATE 3: Foyt said he had not picked a driver as yet, but had spoken to “one or two” in the past week. He has also purchased a 30,000 square-foot building to house his team in a new industrial park north of Charlotte. Veteran NASCAR crew chief Waddell Wilson will head up Foyt’s Winston Cup operation and has begun to hire employees and set up the shop. No car make has been selected as yet, Foyt said, though he has asked NASCAR to use the #14( That’s Racin’ )
