A new name has risen to the forefront in Cal Wells III’s search for a Winston Cup driver — Bobby Hamilton. Hamilton, winner of three Winston Cup races, is suffering through a woeful season driving Larry McClure’s #4 Chevrolet. This year he has only one top-five finish and is 15th in the point standings. With Al Unser Jr.’s decision not to pursue the ride, Hamilton has apparently replaced Wally Dallenbach Jr. as the frontrunner to drive Wells’ Tide-sponsored Ford in 2000( SpeedNet/Monte Dutton ) — UPDATE: Hamilton hasnt commented on his status with Morgan-McClure Racing, but the veteran is in a contract-signing year with the Virginia-based team( Times-Dispatch ) — UPDATE 2: Hearing Morgan-McClure has spoken with Steve Grissom about driving for the team, not sure if this in case Hamilton leaves or for the ‘rumored’ 2nd team
