A meeting this week in Indianapolis between Tony George, Al Unser Jr. and Rick Galles left Galles feeling “very carefully excited” about the prospect of Unser returning to his Pep Boys Indy Racing League team. At Unser’s request, the three men met Monday to discuss the future Unser’s and the IRLs. Galles indicated Friday that Unser is ready to sign with his team, and expected something to happen within the next three weeks. Unser, who could not be reached Friday, apparently is weighing his options. Galles said Unser has received significant offers, particularly in NASCAR. The rumors have been across the board CART, NASCAR and the IRL. Among the most intriguing were whispers about Unser drivng Cal Wells’ Winston Cup car (or CART car, depending upon the source), and another about Unser joining Ron Hemelgarn’s IRL team to rejoin crew chief Owen Snyder and cousin Robby Unser(see rest of story at Racer Mag Site )
