UPDATE: The Pepsi-sponsored NASCAR Busch series team co-owned by driver Jeff Gordon and his ex-crew chief, Ray Evernham, will not continue as planned into 2000 with Evernham as a co-owner, despite the team’s first victory last Saturday in Phoenix. See full story at Racer Magazine — UPDATE: After the win at Phoenix,while the car was being torn down in post-race inspection, Gordon told Evernham that it would be best to end the partnership. “He just told me that he didn’t feel comfortable working with me anymore,” Evernham said Friday from his shop in Harrisburg, N.C. “He told me he wanted to offer to buy me out, and I have not spoken to him since. “But whatever he wants to do is fine. I’m not upset.” Gordon, at Homestead-Miami Speedway for Sunday’s Pennzoil 400, said that “nothing is set in stone.” But with Evernham entrusted with developing the Dodge Intrepid for Winston Cup racing in 2001, and the Gordon-Evernham Busch team running Chevrolets, it wasn’t difficult to see that there could be problems( News and Observer )
