Speedvision’s Inside Winston Cup TV program featured NASCAR’s vice president of broadcasting and technology(Bray Cary) on their program on Monday night to answer questions about the new television package for 2001. Some key points were covered: Approximately 75% of the races will be on NBC or FOX. The remaining 25% will be on either TBS or the FX channel. A brand new NASCAR channel is in the works for the near future. There are no plans to shorten any of the races to stay within typical sports time constraints of 3 hours. FOX will do a one hour pre-race show before each of the races they broadcast. NBC will do one 30 minute pre-race show and one 30 minute post-race show on each of the races they broadcast. NASCAR has put a limit on the number of commercials that NBC and FOX will be allowed to run, which will be “slightly” less than what we currently see on network television broadcasts( Catchfence )
