Dale Jarrett’s public relations group had an interesting day yesterday. It had to convince people its driver was still alive. Dale Jarrett met his namesake, a fan named Dale Jarrett, at the Bristol race in March. They laughed over their similar names, shook hands and went on about their business. The fan Dale Jarrett, of Johnson City, Tenn., passed away Saturday night after a lengthy illness. As word of his death spread, a name confusion developed. Late yesterday, Ford Racing sent out a release confirming that the stock car racer Dale Jarrett was still alive.
