  • Bird goes to the #34 NOT to the #3 and Foyt: The Cicci-Welliver Racing team announced today that Steve Bird has replaced Wes Ward as crew chief of its #34 AFG Glass entry in the BGN with driver David Green. The first event for Bird is the October 21 race at North Carolina Speedway. Bird most recently worked with Bill Davis Racing as crew chief of its #20 BGN entry with drivers Tom Hubert and Dave Blaney. In thirteen seasons, the Lawrence, MA native has racked up eight top five finishes in the Busch Series point standings, including four Busch Series titles (1989, 1995, 1996, 1997), two second place finishes (1988, 1991), one third place (1990) and one fourth place finish (1998). To add to his accomplishments, Bird is credited with being the first crew chief to win three consecutive Busch Series Championships (1995-1997), and the first to guide his team to more than $1 million single season earnings (1997).
