What he didnt plan on was having a wreck. Hamlin, Dale Earnhardts crew chief, suffered a compression fracture of the fifth vertebra in an incident. He was, however, on hand in a somewhat handicapped state to direct Earnhardts efforts from pit road Sunday(Gaston Gazette) UPDATE 3: After celebrating in a come from behind victory on Sunday, crew chief of the #3 GM Goodwrench Service Plus team and driver Dale Earnhardt, Kevin Hamlin made his gingerly way home Sunday night. Hamlin as reported on Sunday, suffered injuries while competing in a Monster Truck event at Talladega on Saturday night. Although experience discomforting he was still able to make the calls from the pits in Sunday’s victory. On Monday, Hamlin visited Dr. Charles Branch, M.D., Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Dr. Branch diagnosed Hamlin with two compressed fractured vertebras, the 5th and 7th, and one fractured rib. Dr. Branch ordered Hamlin to get plenty of rest for the next 48 hours and to wear a brace to support his injuries. Hamlin will be at Rockingham this weekend and is expected to have a full recovery. Dr. Charles Branch is the same Doctor who performed surgery on Dale Earnhardt over the winter to repair a ruptured disc in the seven-time champion’s spine(Champion Sports Group PR)(10-16-2000)
